Bangkok (BKK) Trip 1/2 Tips + Guide to Chatuchak and Talad Rot Fai
Short Getaway to Bangkok! My Virgin Trip!
I went Bangkok BKK with Tracy and my cousin, Ian. We reached Bangkok at 8pm so decided to just explore around the hotel that I'm staying at first. The most important thing to do before going Bangkok is to pack LIGHT or NOTHING. Trust me, or you will cry coming home as you are unable to squeeze all your loots into your luggage.
I stayed at Pratunum Centrepoint Hotel during my 4D3N stay. This is one hotel that I would recommend as it is clean and spacious. Most importantly, it is only 3 minutes walk away from Platinum Mall! The down side is that it is pretty far from the train station.
At the airport, remember to:
1. Buy Thailand Prepaid Cards and ask them to activate for you. It is very cheap and you will definitely see it when you get out of the check out station
2. Walk out of the airport and take the taxi. Make sure it is registered and the attendant at the airport helps you with it so that you will not get scammed! I will advice you to ask the hotel to book taxi for you wherever you want to go to be safe
TADA! OUR FIRST MEAL IN BANGKOK BKK ! SUPER CHEAP, ONLY AROUND $3 PER PAX!
Walking around and taking some ON THE GO pictures.
A 5 minutes walk and you will see this whole stretch of night market where most of the stuffs are handcrafted! Even the tee shirt design is made on the spot. You can get one at only about $5.
Kena bullied to buy all the necessities for our room for the next 4 days! And time to sleep because the day is gonna start early tomorrow!
We are going Chatuchak and Talad Rot Fai today! Yes, both highly raved about and super crowded places. Thus, wear less is the BEST outfit!
Surprisingly, the train is so efficient and clean and it is not complicated at all. So fret not that you will get lost. I got a fear of taking taxi and tuktuk there as I am very gullible, also got scammed. Take to Mochit Station and exit at Exit 1 to reach Chatuchak. Chatuchak is open from 9am - 6pm on weekends.
Finally reach Chatuchak. Only about 30 minutes away from my hotel!
Please, how can I missed this? You can't say you've been to Bangkok if you did not try their coconut ice-cream!
Our lunch! Highly recommended! Garlic Pork Rice at sec12, unit 245, soi21/1.
I got the address down for you guys. :) I know the whole place is damn huge and there's probably other nicer food that I have yet to try. However, if you are near there, you can always try this dish out!
There are many refreshing drinks by the roadside and all of them are super good. Strawberry and Dragon fruit smoothies are my personal favorites!
Me and my cousin shopping around for FOOD and CLOTHES!
Tips on how to CUT price:
Go in the shop and look at the items that you want. Ask for the price and give a 'WHAT?! SO EXPENSIVE' look. Example if the price is 400Baht, you tell the shopkeeper:
250Baht? 250Baht I buy NOW! It works most of the time.
If not, walk out immediately and 70% of the time they will ask you back and give you a reasonable price. The prices are cheap enough but it's fun to bargain for a better price.
DAMN LOOK AT ALL THESE FOOD!
Mini quail eggs. Super cute right? I bought like one whole plate cos it looks super cute but it turned out to taste just like.. eggs. But they got some special sauce so it ain't too bad.
I bought many clothes and eat until I almost vomitted. But there isn't much pictures of my loots because I was busy shopping and I forgot to take pictures :(
Chilled and some super retro coffee house and had a few drinks. We walked for almost 8 hours and we barely cleared half of the whole market. Next time when I return, I'm definitely spending one whole day here!
So what should you do after walking for 8 hours? Full Body Thai Massage of course! :)
LEK Foot Massage is ''çlean'' and is located outside Siam Station (7 stops from Mochit Station) and exit from exit 6 of BTS station. 250 Baht for 1 hour of Thai Massage!
So the 2nd stop for the day was Talad Rot Fai Night Market (Railway Train Market)! Many of you guys may not have heard of this place but this place is a MUST GO! It's truly a hipster hangout palce! However, it is pretty far from Pratunum (About 30minutes taxi ride). It is opened only during evenings from 5pm onwards on weekends.
Talad Rot Fai/ Train Night Market
Soi 51 Srinakarin Srinakarin Rd
Nong Bon Prawet Bangkok
5pm to 12am (Fri to Sun)
Take a picture first before heading inside this hipster land. This place consist of 2 parts and is super big.
Green noodle Wanton Mee. Super refreshing and nice though the serving is a little small.
My favourite! Strawberry Smoothie. I swear this is like the BEST SMOOTHIE ON EARTH.
Nice right the bags? It is slightly more expensive of course than other places but it's worth it. I wanted to buy one of the bag here but my friend asked me to look around first. What a wrong move to listen to her because by the time I went back, it was GONE.
Cute little dog is the mascot of one of the stalls
They have lots of antiques and nice retro museums around too! It's a heaven for hipsters and instagrammers seriously. But my objective to Thailand was to shop and eat thus, there wasn't too many pretentious shots taken.
We really had fun shopping but unfortunately, it rained half way and all the shops closed! :( Decided to went back to our hotel as our feet were really really sore.
Bought this outfit! A duck tee and a duck boxer! Cute right?!
Are we cute yet?
Macs for supper to end off our Day 1! We tried their thailand menu and some BKK microwaved food from their 7-11 and it was decently good!
Be sure to stay tuned for Part 2/2 of my BKK trip as I went to places like Platinum Mall, Terminal 21, Siam Square, Railway Market, Erwan Shrine etc. More tips and directions would be given too! Awesome Bangkok!
