Rider's Cafe and a very disappointing dinner at Chef's Noodles
Hello guys!
I'm going to talk about Rider's Cafe today! Initially I wanted to blog about Book Cafe as well as Group Therapy Cafe too! However, I had a terrible experience at Chef's Noodles this evening I think I need to blog about that NOW. Riders Cafe: Bukit Timah Saddle Club, 51 Fairways Drive Sun - Thu: 08:00 - 21:00 Fri - Sat: 08:00 - 22:00 Closed on Monday Hidden behind the lush greenery of Bukit Timah, Riders Cafe is one of the most unique venues in this urban city. This place reminds me of days I was in Rockhampton and New South Wales. It really is a place to relax and have brunch with the horses. This place is so hidden I suggest you guys to either come with your own vehicle or take a cab in. Riders Cafe is super popular so make sure you reserved your seats or be prepared to wait up till an hour. The usual brunch items on the menu were delicious and lived up to the good name they have online. However, the cafe is not air-conditioned and think I almost died from heat exhaustion. We ordered:
The truffle fries was one of the best I had out of so many places that I've been to! :D
This smoked salmon doesn't look appertising but it tastes otherwise. The Blackstone Benedict with extra hollandaise sauce is definitely the main lead on the table. The eggs were really well-cooked. However, I read some reviews and realised that they are not so consistent with their poached eggs. So maybe it was my lucky day that day! But kudos to their Benedict! :)No matter how full you get, remember there is always room for desserts! These 2 are the most popular/delicious desserts that they have in store for us. Like the name, Death by Chocolate Cake would really kill you. But rather, it is due to the quantity and not the quality. I was really looking forward to this but it kinda disappoints me a little. There was not much contrast in taste between both the vanilla ice cream and the chocolate cake. Both were really really sweet. Those with sweet-tooth would love them to bits though. The portion is really big I think you can share them with 2 other friends. Salted Caramel Brioche. The mix between the salted caramel as well as the sweet crisp was great but i got sick of it after the 5th bite as it was too sweet. We could only finish half of what they gave us. It 's nice but maybe just one or two bites per person would suffice.
We spent ard $35 - $40 per person which I think is quite expensive. However, considering the ambiance, food (maybe minus the desserts) and service. I think it's worth the price.
After brunch, just walked roughly 50 meters and this is what you would see!
It's so freaking cool and such a different experience I swear. If not for the scorching sun, everything would be perfect.
OH OH TEE DEE - Floral Shirt from Vintage Freshbox
A picture that we tried taking and I think it came out pretty well. More pictures up on my Instagram @limgw .
Now, I'm going to talk about the bad experience I had earlier on at Chef's Noodles (Jurong Point).
I was in school filming for my FOC videos with the rest of my GLs today. So we decided to have our dinner at Chef's Noodles since it just opened and we all had cravings for Korean Food.
What I ordered:
Daehan Deopbap, their Signature Korean Style Rice Tub. It is a little bit like Bibimbap just that it is not served with Hot stone. Also, their Tamago egg is super cute.
It's $14.90. The taste is pretty decent.
Janchi Gaksoo. The broth is pretty awesome with a tinge of peppery taste which is unique on it's own.
Okay, so that's all about the good stuffs I have to say about this restaurant. I ordered this Chef's Bulchobap aka Sparkling Sushi Fire for $7. By the name you would expect to see the sushi flambe over a torch of fire to grill the meat right?! But NO! The Wagyu Beef tasted so bad and raw you cant even bite it into half.
We tried asking for plain water and they say the don't serve plain water in this restaurant. So we asked if there's tap water and the waitress actually said "We do not have tap water." Are you freaking kidding me? Throughout our dinner, there was no waiter nor waitress in sight. We can find no one even when we want to top up our kimchi. We said excuse me loudly and even ring the bell but no one came to serve us. My friend went to look for them at the back of the restaurant and they actually ignore my friend. Seriously? This looks damn bad on the restaurant and FYI, the one that serve us is the manager. There were roughly 5-8 people queuing outside, waiting to get into the restaurant initially but all left as no one was there to serve them.
In all, the service sucks and I'm not going back ever again.
P.S Thanks everybody or supporting my blog! I only started yesterday and it already had 300+ hits yesterday. Thanks! :D

LIMGW FIRST POST - CAFE REVIEWS Part 1
Hello everyone!
Welcome to limgw first blog post!! It is not my first time blogging but I have been on a hiatus for about 3 to 4 years and I guess it is time for me to blog again.
For my first post, I would be be blogging about 3 different cafes that I have been to. I would carry on with the rest another time.
1. I AM Cafe
674 North Bridge Road
Sun - Thu: 11:00 - 23:00
Fri - Fri: 11:00 - 01:00
There are 3 good thing about this cafe.
It is relatively hard to find a HALAL cafe since most of them serves all-day breakfast which includes bacon. Thus, this is a good choice if you are hanging out with your Muslim friends.
I ordered the traditional Egg Benedict and I strongly recommend this dish if you are eating there.
The taste is justifiable and the price is just right too. The hollandaise sauce is rich and the poached egg is not too bad.
Another of their ''MUST HAVE'' is the rainbow crepe cake. It taste just like any other ordinary cakes out there that you can buy at any shopping centers but i guess you can take nice pictures with it so worth a try?
It's still a chio Rainbow Crepe Cake nevertheless.
What my friends ordered there.
This cafe adopted an open concept which means that it is not air-conditioned! On the day of my visit, it was drizzling and we were arranged to sit outside. Tough luck!
One bad thing about the cafe is that it is located along the road and it is super noisy during peak hours.
However, it is still worth a visit if you pass by there. Roughly $18 - $20 per person
2.Cups N Canvas
139 Selegie Road
Tues to Thurs: 10.30am-10pm
Fri to Sat: 10.30am-11pm Sun: 10am-8pm Monday: Cafe Closed
Cups N Canvas is an art-studio like cafe. Personally, I feel like it is a perfect place to chill with your friends or to read a book. The ambiance is good and they serve pretty nice food. Also, they provide good services too as the staffs were all hanging smiles on their faces.
The artwork in the cafe definitely gave a lot of 'plus points'to the cafe itself and it is something that makes them stand out from the rest of the cafes. Like most cafes, they are located along the stretch of shop-houses. A point to note that, although they provide pretty good service, ordering as well as payments are self-service
My friends and myself all ordered the same item (as you can see form the picture). Breakfast Canvas is one of the more popular dish. The serving was generous and is taste pretty good for the price we pay. The breakfast includes Sunny Effs, Bacon, Bratwurst Pork Sausage, Roasted Potatoes, Mushrooms, Cherry Tomatoes and Toast. The only complaint I have is that the cherry tomatoes was a little bit too sweet for my liking. The potatoes and mushrooms are well seasoned. It's just sex on a fork!
Their Sweet Potato Latte is one of their specialty too so be sure to try it.
In essence, Cups N Canvas is one of the cafes that you should put it on your list if you are going cafe-hopping.
Roughly $20- $25 per person
3. GRUB
Bishan Park
Tues to Fri: 11am - 3pm, 5.30pm - 10.30pm
Sat, Sun and PH: 9am - 4pm, 5.30pm to 10.30pm
So lastly, I would be talking about GRUB. This place is really very inconvenient! We took the bus and we had no idea which bus stop to alight so we alighted randomly only to realise that we are at the other end of Bishan Park (apparently I think it's quite big).
That's me and Joleen still trying to act cool under the hot sun when we are lost and dead hungry. So we decided to take the cab there and we got scolded by the taxi uncle because it was only like a 1.5 mins ride and we still wanna use GPS to tell the uncle how to get there. I think the taxi meter didn't even jumped once. LOL
But... TA-DA!!!
I think the cafe is super cool and it gives me a cottage feel. There is both outdoor and indoor seats and brunch closes at 3.30pm so be sure to arrive early or you might have to move outdoors even in the midst of eating as they have to start preparation for dinner.
We ordered:
Well, I feel that the food here are all too dry.
The good thing about the crispy fish burger was the presentation as well as the serving. I expected more since it is one of the cafe's specialty. The pasta taste alright but I feel it is a bit too expensive. The Churros was was decent. The chocolate sauce was too diluted but the tangy creme anglaise was refreshing. It was just a little overrated. But still decent. If you guys are looking for nice Churros, the one at Holland Village is good (located beside Crystal Jade). To sum up, good service but average food. Roughly $20 - $23 per person. And my OOTD for the day with my new top which I got from Bugis Street at super cheap prices! :))))) Leave your comments below on what you want to see more as well as how I can improve on my post! Be sure to help me click on the nuffnang add too! Also I know there are many grammatical errors and wrong sentence structure. I craft this out at 3am. Am so sorryy!! Bye. |
